Grow, Little Apple Seed, Grow!

Oof. 5 weeks hit me like a ton of bricks.

So many things happened this week. I went away with my family, and found out that this pregnancy is not like the last! My cravings, while still leaning towards the sweet side of foods, are healthier. I want to eat fruit all day long.

It's also become really important to me to eat healthy in general, as I have basically decided that I want to gain no more than 10 lbs - this is healthy as my BMI is at 29.9, which is fine, but a BMI of 30 is considered obese so at this point, I need to shed a bit of weight.

I also confirmed everything at the doctor's office, although their prediction for the birth date was about 6 days prior to my prediction, so we'll see! I scheduled no less than 3 more appointments as well: one with my family doctor, one for blood tests, and one for the first trimester ultrasound. I also discussed my prolapse issue, which if you are unfamiliar, means that due to trauma at birth and muscle weakness, my pelvic floor muscles were damaged and weak, and now my organs don't sit quite right. This concerned me only due to the birth - I don't know how safe it is to push. So there's a decent chance that this baby will be a C-section. I'm okay with this, but would like to avoid it as well. It IS surgery after all.

Beyond that things are good. I've made the decision with my husband to stay at home when I've had this baby, and that's very exciting as that means that I can focus on parenting and also my writing career, which has taken a major backseat for about a decade.

I'm dying to tell my family about this as well but can't until next weekend. I'm bursting! Beyond that, I'll tell the rest of the world (and make this blog public) at 11 or 12 weeks, or potentially after that first ultrasound. Still thinking about fun ways to do that.

Sleep: I've had very vivid dreams. They aren't usually good ones!

Weddings Rings On or Off: On. I hope to keep them on this time around but we'll see.

Exercise: Walking. I'm following the Jane Austen diet. No really! Sorta really. I have plans to start yoga, as I know it will help immensely and I regretted not doing it the first time.

Any Names Picked Out Yet: Yes, whether it's a boy or a girl, we are good to go.

Gender: Too soon to know!

Movement: None, but that would be weird.

Best Moment of the Week: Confirming the pregnancy. Things are going well.

What I’m excited about/looking forward to: my appointments... getting to see baby and mostly to see that everything is A-Okay. I won't be able to sleep until then.

Oh, Baby! Oh BABY!

That's right!!! There is a baby in there, I mean I think. I took a positive pregnancy test and will confirm in another few days, followed by a prompt trip to the doctor's to triple confirm that baby, baby!

Naturally, I'm super excited. Also naturally, I'm super anxious. I've been googling and researching like a madwoman trying to get absolutely all of the information I possibly can as I am an elderly (the nerve) mother this time around. Gestationally, anyway.

Right off the bat, things feel different. I grant that it has been a few years since my first, but this feels somehow different, and maybe that's just nerves and perception. I'm in a completely different place, mentally, this time than I was last time. True to form, this blog will help me document my phases, only this time I'm starting up super, super early. I realize there's always a chance this could end in heartbreak, but I'm not worried about that breaking ME, should it happen, so off I go.

How far along?: 4 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): Poppy Seed

Total weight gain/loss:  None. I'm really, really early to the game here. I AM hoping to stave off too much weight gain as I'm a little overweight as it is, so I don't need to gain as much. I'm aiming for a total gain of no more than 20 lbs.

The Bump: Nope. A bit of a food baby bump though.

Symptoms/How I'm feeling: Headache, nausea, and hmmm... having reread my last blog, I might be anemic again. That could explain a lot of that. Also, you know...being pregnant.

Food Cravings/Aversions: Nothing. I feel mostly sick. Whee.

Sleep: It's okay right now, I'm tired a lot, because duh.

Weddings Rings On or Off: On. I hope to keep them on this time around but we'll see.

Exercise: Walking. I'm following the Jane Austen diet. No really! Sorta really.

Any Names Picked Out Yet: Yes, whether it's a boy or a girl, we are good to go.

Gender: Too soon to know!

Movement: None, but that would be weird.

Maternity Clothes: None. I wish I had kept my old ones.

Labor Signs: Oh, God. None. Thank God.

What I miss: Nothing, super happy to be preggers!

Best Moment of the Week: Seeing those two lovely pink lines.

What I’m excited about/looking forward to: my appointments... getting to see baby and mostly to see that everything is A-Okay. I won't be able to sleep until then.
